In our experience of running ASL Tutorials, we have observed students to be highly vulnerable to stress. There are multiple factors leading to stress such as management of financial expenses, parents & family expectations, time management and studies workload all lead to stress in students.
The current time where we are experiencing the worst pandemic of all time globaly has added more to that.
We encourage limited challenges and stress which usually means eagerness to achieve your goals but, high amount of stress can lead to disruption in daily lives of the students and their near ones.
If stress goes un-noticed without being handled calmly, it can lead to bigger problems such as depression and anxiety. Therefore, as teachers and mentors, we strongly recommend managing stress in its early stages which is a collective responsibility of parents, friends and teachers.
There are multiple kinds of stress with below being the major two which usually trigger stress in students:
Competition and Social:
This is one of the most common which is owing to family or peer pressure, relationships, issues in managing academic and social life, and uncomfortable/ change in social environment, etc.
Studies and Academic:
Academic stress among students which could result from their study schedule, exams, pressure for good grades, non-committed teachers, inability to manage time well, etc.
Apart from the above majors, there are other challenges such as part time jobs, financial issues, daily travel etc. which also results into stress.
It is important to manage stress timely among students since it can result into irepairable damage, which at times results into students crumbling to pressure. Below are a few tips from our side which we realize could help students stay away from this menace:
- Spend quality time with friends and family
Globally the best way to stay calm and happy is to spend quality time with friends and family. We advise all our students to keep it light and have open & frequent discussions with family to share feelings, fears, plans, targets and goals. They are always are true guide and help take right decisions.
- Always adopt a positive attitude
Only those who stay positive and keep working towards their goal relentlessly without fearing about failure, stand out in the crowd. We urge all our students to always be positive and keep looking at the brighter side. While you aim for bigger heights, its normal to encounter challenges and small roadblocks, but stay positive and keep giving your 100 percent.
- Unwind through following your passion
It’s important for us all to unwind and try to do things that make us happy. Practically, while we are working hard to achieve our goal and prepare passionately, it’s important that we keep unwinding and also do things outside academics which help us stay free of stress. It could be anything from sports, exercise, music to travel. These all also help create concentration, team building, leadership etc. which are important practical life experiences required in long term.
- Effective time management
This is one of the biggest reason of stress and therefore important to manage our time well. It is imperative that we manage our day to day time well and utilize every minute effectively. We always ask our students to break their year in small milestones and keep working towards achieving those small goals – that’s the best way to manage and value time.
- Academic studies and task management
Try and organize notes, syllabus, books, etc. such that they are readily available and accessible as and when you need them. That will always help you manage your tasks and academic studies timely.
